Two organic forms pulse with life across paired wood panels, with magenta, aqua, and gold built up in thick, tactile layers. Like cells in conversation, they mirror and answer each other. Vital carries both meanings at once: biological, and essential to being alive.

I began these two panels simply chasing abstract shape and watched something alive emerge. The forms took on the quality of organisms: cells dividing, breathing, reaching toward one another across the gap between the panels. The title arrived after the painting, and told me what I had been making all along.
